Norman flew in 8.17, called to her, she made no noise in return and he flew off.

    Yeah! egg shell behind her!

Did I just see a cracked egg and hear chirping?

If the eggs are viable they are safest inside the shells, winds are set to increase for a while overnight, and then rain is forecast before dawn. Hope she has had a good feed and hunkers down for an uncomfortable few hours but it will be worth it in the end. I hope.

Thank you for the link. Perhaps this is new and/or not recognised behaviour. Hope someone is cataloguing it for future peregrine watchers.

Thanks for the update JP, not that I was being nosey about your whereabouts, but just in case no-one had spotted Norman at all. Thanks for all the photos too, and to everyone else who posts their sightings.

Think we all have “empty nest syndrome”!

    • I’m staying with friends in Wales and won’t be checking the webcam until at least Wednesday.
According to another friend, who is not a forum member, ‘Norman’ visited the platform at least 5x times this morning between 06:29 and 08:35 when my friend had to go out.

      • Hi JP enjoy your break I for one have missed your pics and updates,it’s good to know that you haven’t forgotten us

With this almost daily activity in the box, will it mean that the box will not be cleared of detritus by H & OT staff before the start of the next breeding season? After the hoohaa about parasitic levels in our young birds, be nice to start from scratch in the Spring, wouldn’t it?

    • Hi Cass yes it would be nice if the box were to be cleared. I suppose it’s a catch 22 situation do they or don’t they, perhaps when the new breeding season starts the peregrines themselves will do some sort of tidying who knows. Let’s hope that what ever happens any new peregrines that arrive will be ok.

    • hi folks 😀
only guessing but i can’t see the bird activity will dent the yearly box clean ..after all, they can handle strange arms when its full of eyasses so this should be a doddle for them.
think they’d be fretting if it WASN’T done for them – probably mutter something about going where they’d be appreciated! ..hahaha

    • The box is being used the same amounts as previous years, I think the camera is usually turned off by now so hence people are seeing the peregrines on the platform more

Quick thanks to JP, Skip, Sheepish and pollyperks for coming back to me re Norman’s “absence”. Just wanted to be reassured he had been seen. Still waiting for webmaster to divulge information about YY, please.

I just call in, at least once a day, usually not signing in, BUT consumed with curiosity about Norman and chick YY. Could the webmaster please advise if Norman is still about, he does not appear to have been photographed/seen for over a week now. Also is YY progressing as she should and has she/will she still be set free in Norfolk? I would…[Read more]

    • I get up before sunrise just to watch the webcam and, prior to 11 August, saw ‘Norman’ at least twice during the course of each day.
The last time I saw him was on Wednesday 10 August when I saved 5 screenshots between 11:42 and 11:45.
As for YY – we’ve had no news of her since 8 July and I can’t find any updates on the website for the…[Read more]

      • Adult falcon and tiercel are both doing fine but expect to see less of them on the platform until the new year as there is no reason for them to use it ☺

        • Thank you Skip – your input is always authoritative and very welcome.

        • Thanks Skip. I assumed that ‘Norman’ would gradually reduce the frequency and duration of his visits to the platform.

        • Thanks for information re adults is there any update on YY or do you think we are all to be kept in the dark? I as all others are interested in the final instalment, please please furnish us with some information.

Food being shared nicely (NOT) between the two and another peregrine appeared at the rear of the box but flew off, thought it was fledgling no,2.

2nd fledge? Over the top of the microphone, above the camera. Think she must have flown from…. oh she’s back. Now done it again. Heart is in my mouth. Hope GA is asleep!

Well that was quick. Norman dropped off a small creature, taken by one who mantled over the ledge and seemed to swallow it whole.
